September 10th - Unexpected Rain

We heard the thunder start around 6:45 AM and the rain came around 7:15 AM; unfortunately, Gerry was not home by then and the house does not have a water/weather-proof roof.  The roof is covered with plywood but there are 1/8" gaps between the sheets to allow for expansion.  The water flowed easily downward, through the gaps, and into the house.  I went around and moved Gerry's tools and paperwork to try to keep them dry.  Fortunately, the house plans were in my closet area which already has the floor for the storage attic above installed...that helped keep the closet area dry.

Once Gerry got home, Jonathan--our neighbor from across the street--came over and helped Gerry cover the roof with plastic.  Thank goodness for good neighbors!

Another neighbor joked that he thought the days (years!) of plastic on our roof were over!

Once the rain stopped Gerry pulled the plastic off to dry out the roof.  Then he recovered the roof just in case the rain came back.

I spent a couple hours vacuuming up as much of the water as possible.  Then we set up fans to help circulate the air and dry out the floors and the storage area above.
