Jim Helps Gerry Prepare for Rain

Jim spent Friday evening helping me at the Make A Difference Day Salvation Army project then he was at my house all day Saturday covering the garage roof with plywood and a tarp to help prevent leaks when it starts to rain.

Treasures in the Kitchen Wall

A Buttermilk carton and a 7up bottle found inside the kitchen wall under the large window.  They are both in very good condition.  The house was built in 1953 so we know they are 57 years old.

One Man Wrecking Crew....Todd.

Todd and the header beam he single-handedly brought down!

He's got the power!

Todd on break contemplating his next move....

Todd demo'd all the framing around the kitchen, front door and front bedroom.

October 2- Now I Really Can't Cook....

The kitchen after I started packing but before demolition--original cabinets circa 1953.  The appliances and the greenhouse window over the sink are already gone.

Kitchen demo has started...

Gone....as well as the majority of the house.

The only part of the house left standing is the bathroom and the bedroom we're using for clothes, laundry and storage.

Gerry had to leave the electrical panel because Edison has not yet moved the power to the construction pole!

Hallway to the bed & bath; it gets torn down tomorrow.  That's cardboard on the left wall to give me some privacy from the neighbors and passers-by since the plaster is already gone.

What Did We Do With Gerry's Old Car?

Gerry bought his car for $300 in 1968 with the idea of restoring it.  He drove it down when he moved from WA to CA.

Thank goodness for good friends and a 20-foot trailer.

Loaded and ready to be moved

On the road.....

Safe and sound for the duration of the house remodel.

Demo Is In Full-Swing

Yesterday, the remaining roof shingles and half the stucco were removed.

This is the west wall outside the kitchen.

Today, the roof was removed except over the remaining bedroom and bathroom.

Just our luck...it is raining and lightening north of here.

Keep up with tradition...add more plastic!

No More Plastic on the Roof.

Not only is the plastic off the roof, the roof shingles started coming down today in this terrible heat.  It's hard to see inthe picture, but Gerry put a fan on the roof to help Alfonso keep cool.

What a mess.  Gerry put black plastic all around the house so it will be somewhat easier to clean up the roof debris.

Inside the storage bedroom, Gerry covered our clothes racks with plastic and laid plastic on the floor in the attic above the bedroom for additional dust protection.
